Our History

Developing world changers for over 50 years

SBCS was started in May of 1974 at the recommendation of Pastor Joe Courson and the Fellowship of Deacons as an outreach ministry of Stetson Baptist Church. The school started with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes. A school board of seven (7) church members was elected to govern the school. The school became officially known as Stetson Baptist Christian School in September 1979. Over the next six years, grades one through six were added. Seventh grade was added in 1988 and eighth grade in 1989. SBCS achieved accreditation from the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) in 2013. Now in its 50th year of ministry to the DeLand community, SBCS continues to offer “Education for Eternity” for our students, facilitated through our Christian employees.
